Varsity Boys Basketball
Weed 51, Mercy 17
Mercy was not held to single-digit scoring in all four quarters in Weed on Thursday, as they didn't score at all in the fourth quarter.
"Once again the Warriors offense went AWOL. You're not going to win with 17 points with 21 turnovers," said Mercy coach Steve Shellabarger.
Malachi Jones scored nine of Mercy's points, with Harlow Johnson accounting for five.
Varsity Girls Basketball
Weed 50, Mercy 30
Jessica Curl's 18 points led the Lady Warriors in Weed on Thursday, with Cheyanne Johnson netting seven and Breana Kemp, three.
Curl also led the team with 13 rebounds and blocked five shots.
Kemp was chosen as Mercy's Player of the Game for adapting to a starting assignment, hitting 3 of 4 free throws and hustling on defense.
Girls Soccer
Corning 4, Central Valley 0
Corning High's girls soccer team posted its second shutout in as many days with Thursday's blanking of Central Valley in Corning, a day after blanking Hamilton 3-0 on the road.
Patricia Ibarra, Laura Madera, Maria Diaz and Caitlyn McCoy scored the goals for the Lady Cardinals, with McCoy and Alma Carrillo adding on assists.
Keeper Anissa Munoz made six saves.
Corning (8-6, 3-1) hosted Lassen on Tuesday, and plays in Anderson on Thursday.
JV Wrestling
A total of 12 junior varsity wrestlers placed over the weekend at the Chico JV Tournament.
Ben Meister won the 160-pound weight class, and teammates Devon Hiller (113), Coy Parker (138), Tony Carrillo (160) and Braulio Ruiz (285) came home with silver showings.
Erik Alvarado (106), Alex DeJesus (120) and Shane Hansen (126) came in third, with Allen Cervantes (113), Hector Valencia (120) and Quinton Jones (220) taking fourth place.
