Lady Warriors plug Volcanoes
The three-headed monster of Jessica Curl, Marissa Starman and Kayce Kemp combined for 40 points at home on Friday to help the Mercy High girls to an important 51-41 victory over Chester.
"This was a good win for Mercy, with everyone chipping in," said Mercy coach Steve Shellabarger.
Curl led Mercy with 18 points and stamped her name on both the offensive and defensive boards, ruling the paint for 27 rebounds. She also approached a triple-double by blocking seven shots.
Starman scored 12 points, six of which helped Mercy pull away in the fourth quarter after beginning the period down 37-35.
"Marissa really stepped up in the second half," Shellabarger said. "She drove the baseline and scored or made good passes."
Kemp knocked won 10 points and secured the same number of rebounds to also finish with a double-double.
As a team Mercy shot just 28 percent from the field on 15 of 53 shooting, and went 18 for 32 from the charity stripe.
With the league win. the Lady Warriors improved to 3-5, and to 9-11 on the year. Mercy hosted Hayfork on Tuesday.
