Lady Warriors succumb to Westwood
Despite looking like the underdog on paper, Mercy High's girls basketball team gave fifth-seeded Westwood (24-2) all they had in Wednesday's 45-34 road loss in the Northern Section Division VI playoffs.
Mercy was the No. 12 seed, but a team-high 12 points from Marissa Starman and 11 by Jessica Curl kept the Warriors in the game, which they trailed just 26-21 at the break.
Curl was a beast on the boards, collecting 21 of Mercy's 35 rebounds, while also blocking three shots, making a pair of steals and dishing out two assists.
Kayce Kemp added seven points for the Lady Warriors (12-13), with Starman and Cheyanne Johnson supplying three assists each.
Mercy will lose just two players fro this year's roster, in Kemp and Stefanie Cheek.
