Mercy boys whip UPrep
The Mercy baseball team defeated University Prep last week and then stumbled against Liberty Christian and Redding Christian down the stretch — finishing the league season at the fringes of a playoff berth.
Eric Lindeman and Pat Farmer combined on the hill in Mercy’s 12-8 triumph over University Prep. Lindeman pitched four innings, allowing six runs (two earned) on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. He won his third game of the year and Farmer netted his first save with three effective innings in relief. He allowed a pair of runs (one earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out three.
Lindeman socked a double and drove in four runs, going 2-for-5 to lead Mercy’s offense. Ethan Bell doubled, Farmer was 2-for-2 with a RBI and Scott Farmer singled and scored three times.
The Warriors blew a 5-0 lead against Liberty, a team they had beaten twice already this season, to lose 15-8.
Burns swatted the first home run of his life, going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, and Moon ripped a double and a home run to drive in five runs for the Warriors. Scott and Pat Farmer each had two hits and a run scored and Lindeman also crossed the plate for Mercy.
The Warriors rallied from a 6-0 deficit but couldn’t climb all the way out against Redding Christian on the road Friday, as Mercy lost its league finale, 14-4.
