Corning boys subdue Central Valley

After getting outscored 9-8 in the opening quarter on Friday, the Corning High boys rebounded to take the remaining three periods by a combined count of 45-23 to knock off visiting Central Valley 53-32.

The Cardinals remained the lone unbeaten team in the Northern Section, running their season mark to 19-0 and improving to 3-0 in the Northern Athletic League.

Nick Hoag's 17 points topped a scoring column of eight Cardinals, and he paired it with a team-best 15 points for his seventh double-double of the season.

Trevor Skousen followed with 10 points that included a pair of 3-pointers, and Michael Shoemaker just missed a double-double with nine points and 13 boards.

Chayce Maday pitched in with seven points and four assists.

Corning plays in Anderson on Tuesday, and takes on Division III Foothill on Friday in Palo Cedro.
