Corning JVs drop final two league games
The Corning JV softball team ended the season with a pair of losses, falling to Anderson on the road and Lassen at home.
Against Anderson, Corning rallied from a 4-0 deficit, scoring three times in the fourth inning, but the Lady Cards lost 8-4.
Angelica Ramos went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Erica White was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and another scored. Brittney Garrett also drilled a two-run single.
On the mound, Ashley Deines gave up five earned runs on nine hits in a complete-game effort. She walked five and struck out seven.
The Lady Cardinals scored in the first inning against Lassen, but the visitors were still sore from their 6-4 loss to Corning on May 1, and got revenge with a 13-3 win five days later in the season finale.
“We had an enjoyable season with a great group of girls,” Corning coach Sandy Hoag said. “The team as a whole battled hard and never hung their heads — even in tough times.”
Tristan Huntley rocked a triple and teammates Catherine Kinkle and Lizeth Wilfong both went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored against Lassen.
Renee Whitlock pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs, and Jasmine Gravitt finished the game in relief.
“Coach (Brad) Gravitt and I are very proud to have had the opportunity to work with such a dedicated team of softball players,” Hoag said.
Corning’s final record was 14-10 (6-4 NAL).
