Top sports moments: JV Cardinals go undefeated
There's not much else you can say about a perfect season, other than that it was, indeed, perfect.
With a 12-6 win over West Valley at home on Nov. 2, Corning High's junior varsity football team capped off a season that saw them win the Northern Athletic League championship and finish 10-0 overall.
Along the way they outscored their opponents 314-99.
"We had a lot of depth," said Corning coach Tom Tomlinson about his squad's success. "We had our fair share of injuries early in the season, but they kept doing more and getting better and staying focused."
The JV Cardinals' march to their undefeated season included wins over Las Plumas (34-7), Oroville (21-20), Red Bluff (29-2), Willows (21-6), Lassen (40-20), Orland (33-6), Central Valley (47-12), Anderson (42-24) and Yreka (35-6) before the West Valley clincher.
