Lady Cardinals fly past Falcons
Corning High's girls basketball team came out on fire in Shasta Lake on Friday, outscoring the Falcons 21-8 in the first eight minutes and running away with a 60-45 victory over Central Valley.
The Lady Cardinals (11-5, 3-0 Northern Athletic League) went up and over the Central Valley defense, with five different players finding the range from beyond the 3-point line.
Bailey Jennings sank a pair from long range among her team-leading 14 points, while Whitney Armstrong, Rachel Silva, Shyanne Petty and Keara Terras also dialing up long distance.
Silva finished with nine points and Marisa Vinson and Gates Fears scored eight points each.
Armstrong scrapped for a team-best seven rebounds, followed by Emerie Eller with six and Rachel Bentz, five.
Armstrong and Vinson each passed out three assists.
The Corning defense flashed its way to 27 steals on the night, with Jennings, Vinson, Bentz and Silva guilty of four each.
The Lady Cardinals opened the doors to Anderson on Tuesday, and play Foothill in Palo Cedro on Friday in a non-league contest.
